Description
A gritty, up-tempo country anthem celebrating the simple pleasure of strong, black coffee. 'Gimme That Black Brew' captures the spirit of rural Americana with its raw energy, relatable lyrics, and traditional instrumentation. It's a morning ritual, a call to action, and a testament to the enduring power of a good, strong cup of joe.
Lyrics
Verse 1 Stumbled outta bed, dawn’s breakin’ through the gray, Need a cup to spark my soul and kickstart my day. No fancy foam, no syrup swirl, just caffeine on the drip, Bitter as a coal seam, strong enough to whip. Chorus Gimme that black brew, punch me as it goes down! Strong like a mule kick, wake this small-town clown! No fads, no frills, just coffee dark and true, Gimme that black brew, that’s what’ll get me through! Verse 2 Percolator preachin’, crack-o’-dawn creed, I take my gospel steamin’, straight from the bean. It’s the mornin’ fire that lights my weary eyes, A bold, black elixir under wide-open skies. Chorus Gimme that black brew, punch me as it goes down! Strong like a mule kick, wake this small-town clown! No fads, no frills, just coffee dark and true, Gimme that black brew, that’s what’ll get me through! Bridge Raise a mug to the roast, to the simple and strong, That midnight oil keeps me hummin’ all day long. No need for sugar, don’t dilute my soul’s desire, Black brew’s the spark that sets my heart on fire! Chorus Gimme that black brew, punch me as it goes down! Strong like a mule kick, wake this small-town clown! No fads, no frills, just coffee dark and true, Gimme that black brew, that’s what’ll get me through! Outro (Claps, hollers, banjo twang) Gimme that black brew, pour it thick and deep, Keep it strong, keep me rollin’, never miss a beat! Gimme that black brew, yeah! Gimme that black brew, mmm!
Notes
Instrumentation: Acoustic guitar (steel-string), banjo, upright bass, harmonica, minimal drums (snare, kick, maybe a brush pattern). Vocals should be slightly gritty and energetic. Tempo: Medium-up tempo, driving feel. Key: G Major is a good fit but C Major would also work well. Structure: Standard verse-chorus with a bridge. Performance Notes: The banjo should provide a prominent, driving rhythm. The harmonica can add fills between vocal lines and during the outro. Encourage audience participation during the choruses and the outro. The outro should fade out with the banjo and harmonica trading licks while the band continues clapping and hollering. Harmonies on the chorus would be welcome.
